Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (KUMS) has achieved a significant milestone in the academic world, securing a prominent position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025. According to the most recent rankings released by the Times Database on October 9, 2024, KUMS proudly stands as the leading medical university in Iran.
Dr. Yadollah Bahrami, Director of Medical Information and Scientific Resources at KUMS, remarked, “At the national level, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences has achieved a commendable third place among 85 universities, following Sharif University of Technology in first place and Amir Kabir University of Technology, along with Iran University of Science and Technology, in second. Notably, Tehran University also ranks among the top three universities in the country. In this tough competition, KUMS has been ranked among the top 401-500 institutions globally, out of a pool of 2,875 universities from 115 countries.”
Dr. Younes Panahi, Deputy Minister of Research and Technology, underscored the importance of attaining a rank below 500, highlighting a 25% increase in the representation of Iranian medical universities in the global Times rankings compared to the previous year, which reflects a significant enhancement in the scientific reputation of the nation.
Prof. Qobad Mohammadi, the chancellor of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, emphasized that this recognition from THE represents a crucial milestone in the university's commitment to medical excellence. He credited this achievement to the unwavering dedication of the university's management and staff, whose collaborative efforts have elevated Kermanshah University’s prominence on both national and international platforms.
Dr. Bahrami further explained the rigorous evaluation process associated with the Times ranking system, which employs 18 distinct performance indicators across five area including education, research, research quality, international outlook, and industry engagement.
He also added, “This achievement accentuates Kermanshah University of Medical Science’ valuable contribution to the prestige of the province and the nation by attaining the foremost position among medical sciences institutions and earning a place among the top three national universities. This success illustrates the university's unwavering commitment to elevating the scientific standards in the country and nurturing a new generation of skilled professionals. Through investments in cutting-edge research and the cultivation of international partnerships, the university is poised to achieve its long-term goals.”
