School of Pharmacy

History:
The Faculty of Pharmacy Library commenced its operations in 2001, initiating with a limited collection of books within the faculty. This establishment operates under the direct supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Education and occupies an area of 350 square meters.

Policy:
The library's primary objectives include the collection, maintenance, and organization of both written and non-written materials and resources to facilitate education and research. Moreover, the library is committed to collaborating with other medical university libraries across the country.

Regulations:
1. Membership eligibility for the library is extended to the following groups:
   - Working faculty members,
   - Medical, pharmacy, and master's students,
   - Official and contract employees.
   Interested individuals must present a letter of introduction from the Vice Chancellor for Basic Sciences Education, along with a recent photograph and the completion of a membership application form.

2. Access to the library collection on-site is granted to:
   - Working and retired faculty members,
   - Researchers,
   - Students,
   - Employees from all schools and centers affiliated with the university.
   Users must provide a valid identification document to utilize library resources within the reading room.

The library currently boasts a total of 721 accredited members, which includes faculty members, staff, and students from the pharmacy, medical, dental, and campus programs.

3. The following outlines the number of volumes that may be loaned and the associated duration of the loan:
   - Faculty: 10 volumes for a period of 30 days,
   - Students: 3 volumes for a period of 15 days,
   - Employees: 3 volumes for a period of 15 days.
   
Please note that the loan period for frequently utilized or textbook materials may be revised at the discretion of the individual responsible for the loan department, in accordance with existing library policies.
Working Hours:
The library operates from Saturday to Wednesday, with hours from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Book Loan Extensions and Reservations:
Visitors who require additional time beyond the specified loan period may request an extension through the librarian, provided that there are no other reservations for the book in question. Additionally, the loan department offers a book reservation service.

Penalties for Late Returns and Compensation for Damage:
Borrowers are required to return all borrowed materials by the due date. A penalty of 200 Rials will be incurred for each day a book is returned past the deadline. In instances of late returns exceeding three occurrences, the borrower will lose library membership for one academic semester. Should a book be lost, the borrower must purchase a replacement copy and return it to the library. In the event of damage to a book (including but not limited to tearing of the cover or pages, marking, or staining), the borrower is responsible for compensating for the damage as assessed by the library manager.

Settlement Procedures:
All students at all academic levels must obtain a settlement form from the library upon graduation, withdrawal, leave, or transfer. Students within the School of Pharmacy are additionally required to submit a printed copy of their thesis, in both CD and digital formats (WORD and PDF), to the library. Faculty members and staff must also secure a settlement form from the library upon cessation of employment, whether due to resignation, transfer, academic mission, retirement, or leave exceeding three months.

Library Regulations:
- Magazines, newspapers, and reference materials are restricted to use within the library premises and are not available for loan.
- The library reserves the right to request the immediate return of any borrowed item, and the member is obliged to comply promptly.
- The borrower bears sole responsibility for all borrowed materials, and no excuses will be entertained in cases of issues.
- Donations of redundant or duplicate books may proceed only with the approval of the library supervisor and the educational assistant.

Weeding Procedures:
Weeding, defined as the process of removing books from the collection, should be conducted with careful consideration and adherence to scientific criteria. Factors to assess include:

1. Frequency of usage, emphasizing books that are infrequently referenced.
2. Duplicate editions, particularly those that were once vital but now lack current relevance.
3. Outdated editions, notably scientific publications that have been superseded by newer versions.
4. Books with limited value, such as computer texts that have a short informational lifespan.
5. Usage metrics, including the frequency with which a book has been borrowed.

The library's operating hours are subject to adjustment based on necessity and the recommendations of the educational assistant for basic sciences. Currently, these hours are set from Saturday to Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the library closed on Thursdays.

Interlibrary Loan Services:
The interlibrary loan service enhances library resources for patrons. The library is responsible for procuring materials not available within its collection from affiliated university libraries for a predetermined period.
