Shanghai Ranking
The Shanghai ranking, issued by Shanghai Jiaotong University, is widely regarded as one of the most dependable global university rankings. The Shanghai World Ranking System, initiated in 2003, is an annual assessment of worldwide universities and institutions. Its primary objective is to appraise the quality of education and research. The ranking results are released semi-annually to reflect both academic and subject-specific standings.
The Shanghai ranking system scrutinizes four main criteria: education quality, faculty quality, research output, and per capita performance, which are evaluated using six indicators. These indicators encompass the number of Nobel Prize or Field Medal laureates among graduates and faculty members, the quantity of highly cited researchers across 21 subject areas, the count of articles published in renowned publications such as Nature and Science journals, and the volume of indexed articles in influential science and social science databases. Moreover, it takes into consideration the academic performance adjusted for institutional size.
Data for this ranking is sourced from various platforms including Nobel Prize websites, Medal Fields, databases, and government statistical information. Additionally, university research data is collected from the WOS citation database.
