History, Rules, and Regulations of the Library

The School of Medicine Library commenced its operations in 1986 within the premises of the School, initially equipped with a modest collection of books donated by the University’s Central Library. This facility is managed under the direct oversight of the Schools’s Vice Chancellor for Basic Sciences.

The library encompasses a total area of 500 square meters, organized into five distinct working sections.

Policy:
- To collect, maintain, and catalog written and non-written materials and resources for educational and research purposes.
- To establish cooperation with other libraries affiliated with medical universities across the nation.

Regulations:
1. Membership to the library is available to the following groups:

Faculty members, students enrolled in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry programs, master’s students, and official or contract employees, upon submission of a letter of introduction from the Vice President for Research, a photograph, and completion of the membership form.

2. Access to library resources on-site is granted to:
Working and retired faculty members, researchers, students, and staff from all faculties and centers affiliated with the university, provided they present a valid identification document.

   - Faculty members may borrow up to 15 volumes for a duration of 20 days.
   - Postgraduate students may borrow up to 10 volumes for 15 days.
   - Undergraduate students are permitted to borrow 5 volumes for 15 days.
   - Staff and experts may borrow 5 volumes for 15 days.

*The loan period for frequently used items or textbooks may be modified at the discretion of the library’s loan department, in accordance with current library policies.

4. Book renewal and reservation:
Should a borrower require an extension beyond the specified period without competing requests for the item, the loan period may be extended through the librarian’s approval.

5. Fines for late returns and compensation for damaged materials:
Borrowers are required to return library materials by the specified due date. Failure to do so will incur fines of 500 rials for students, 1500 rials for faculty, and 1000 rials for staff for each day the item is overdue. In cases of repeated late returns (more than three occurrences), borrowers will be obligated to purchase a new edition of the same title and will lose library membership for one academic semester. If an item is lost, borrowers must replace the book and return it to the library. If a book is damaged (e.g., torn cover or pages, markings or stains), borrowers are responsible for compensating the damage as determined by the library manager.

Borrowers must deposit the fine amount into the specified current account 0116204535000 at Saderat Bank, under the name of Non-Health Income of the School of Medicine, and present the deposit slip to the library.

6. Settlement:
All students, regardless of academic level, are required to obtain a settlement form from the library upon graduation, withdrawal, leave, or transfer. Faculty members and staff must secure a settlement form upon termination of employment (including resignation, transfer, academic missions, retirement, or leave exceeding three months).

Additional Regulations:
- Presentation of a national or student identification card is mandatory when borrowing books; materials will only be issued to the cardholder.
- Magazines, newspapers, reference books, and theses are restricted to in-library use and may not be borrowed.
- The library reserves the right to request the immediate return of borrowed materials at any time, and the member is obliged to comply promptly.
- The head of the library, with the approval of the Vice Chancellor for Research of the school, will close the library for 15 days each year at the conclusion of the academic semester and during summer vacations for the purposes of shelf reading and collection evaluation. During this period, loaning of books will not be permitted; however, members may return borrowed items.
- Borrowers bear full responsibility for materials borrowed from the library, and no mitigating circumstances will be accepted in the event of issues arising.
- Donations of unnecessary or duplicate books may be made at the discretion of the library supervisor.

Working hours are established and announced based on the needs of the library, as assessed by the Vice Chancellor for Research of the school. Currently, the library operates from Saturday to Wednesday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and remains closed on Thursdays.
